Dan Fredrick, Sponsored Student Programme Manager, University of Alberta: - The University of Alberta is one leading universities in Canada, occupying a place of honour among the hundred best universities in the world. Being one of the oldest education institutions the University of Alberta is participating in the exhibition today in order to attract more students from Azerbaijan to obtain Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral degrees. We offer a wide range of subject specializations, but our most prestigious is engineering, in particular, oil and gas engineering. Since this area of the economy is a priority in Azerbaijan, we believe that we will find great opportunities in the local market. Students from Azerbaijan have begun to actively enrol at our university over the past five years, since the launch of the state programme to sponsor education abroad. Currently there are about ten students from Azerbaijan studying at the university. Most Azerbaijani students are interested in the Faculties of Engineering and Computer Science. Some also enrol to study biology and political science. Your young compatriots have organized an Azerbaijani student association and have developed close ties with the community of Azerbaijanis residing in the province. The range of summer and winter sporting activities organized by the University is vast. Our sports teams have all received top honours at the national level. We are participating in this exhibition for the first time and look forward to meeting with those who wish to study abroad. We are pleased with the organizer’s decision to choose the contingent of higher-grade school students and university undergraduates as the target audience for the exhibition, because these young people are the ones who are serious about their further education. Although the exhibition has just begun, it is distinguished by its liveliness and our stand has already been visited by many potential students. I am pleased with this pace and I hope that it will continue over the next two days.
