7th Azerbaijan International
Education and Career Exhibition
On 4 October, the opening ceremony of the 7th Azerbaijan International Education and Career Exhibition took place at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku. Over the years, the exhibition has become the largest trade fair held in Azerbaijan in the field of educational services, vocational guidance and the employment of young people. It is the only event in the field of education organized with support from the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan.
The exhibition is also supported by the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation, as well as the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers') Organizations of Azerbaijan Republic.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister for Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Rimantas Vaitkus, Deputy Minister for Education of Lithuania; Valery Berchun, President of the Russian Union for the healthy child development; other VIP guests; the organizers of the exhibition; and representatives of the media. In his speech at the opening ceremony Minister Jabbarov noted that the main objective of the exhibition was to draw public attention to the problems of education in Azerbaijan, thus the holding of such an event was certainly important and useful. The exhibition serves not only to provide publicity for higher education institutions or for teachers to meet with potential students, but to exchange experiences and best practice on an international scale as well.
In today's world, the educational process continues beyond the period of education into employment. Farid Mamedov, Executive Director of Iteca Caspian LLC, welcomed visitors and participants in his speech and noted that this year the range of countries represented at Education and Career has grown significantly. Interest in this event was so great that the exhibition area was unable to host all the participants. Mr Mamedov expressed his gratitude to all agencies which have supported the exhibition, particularly the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan for their support and an active participation.
A VIP tour of the exhibition was then held. This year Education and Career has gathered 108 participants from 18 countries. Universities from Belarus, Great Britain, Hungary, Georgia, Spain, Canada, Lithuania, the UAE, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and South Korea are presenting more than 70 faculties, courses and programmes on the most popular professions in Azerbaijan.
This year's exhibition is also unique with the active attendance of national groups participating under the auspices of the state educational authorities of their countries. In total five countries are participating with national stands. These are Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine, Hungary and Poland, all of which are representing the most prestigious schools of various cities. Hungary and Poland are participating with national stands for the first time this year. The largest group is that from Lithuania, which includes representatives from 22 educational institutions. The Belarusian national group includes representatives from seven of its universities in the largest cities of the Republic of Belarus. The offers provided by the universities and language schools of the UK, the UAE and Cyprus continue to be diverse. Thus, through Education and Career, foreign universities have become more accessible for Azerbaijani students. The displays regarding higher education in Azerbaijan have increased this year, with exhibits from 10 state and private universities from the capital city and the regions.
Education and Career is unique not only in the favourable conditions it offers for making future occupational choices but in the way that it provides real assistance to employers and job seekers as well. This year, the leading companies in Azerbaijan, including major employers such as Azercell, BP, SOCAR-AQS, JTI and UniBank are attending the Career sector of the exhibition, offering jobs in the telecommunications, oil and gas, energy and banking industries. HRC, a company engaged in recruitment services, is also participating in the exhibition. Iteca Caspian, the organizer of exhibitions and conferences in Azerbaijan, will also be attending Education and Career as a participant for the first time. “The excitement caused by our participation for the first time immediately subsided when the many visitors who wanted to work for Iteca Caspian started to approach the stand”, said Svetlana Hajiyeva, PR manager for Iteca Caspian.
An extensive business programme, which includes a series of presentations and seminars, has been timed to coincide with the exhibition. Today, a roundtable discussion, held as part of the exhibition programme, on "New initiatives for Azerbaijani labour market development" was a huge success. The main objectives of the discussion were to create constructive dialogue between employers and universities, to discuss pressing issues in the labour market of Azerbaijan, to expand areas of cooperation between these two parties, and to consider further joint initiatives for the development of the labour market. The roundtable discussion regarding the labour market in Azerbaijan quickly became animated. The participants included the heads of the human resources departments of Azercell, Azerfon, Azersun Holding, Akkord and BP, and the representatives of universities, human resources organizations, non-governmental organizations and government agencies. By the end of the discussion the participants agreed that this event would form a good foundation for optimizing cooperation between universities and employers, and thanked the organizers for the opportunity to communicate in this format.
Tomorrow the exhibition will continue its work. Many presentations, including one on modern school equipment, have been scheduled for tomorrow. A seminar entitled "Organisation of the educational and cognitive process in pre-school and mainstream school institutions and its impact on the development and viability of new generations of the nation", conducted by Member of the Academy of Creative Pedagogy, Honoured Worker in General Education of the Russian Federation and Doctor of Medicine, Professor V. F. Bazarny, will be another important event in the business programme. Dr Bazarny was invited to attend by the exhibition organizers with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Professor Bazarny will present a unique system that would transfer educational institutions to a foundation for health development, which will open up the potential of children during their education. Today Dr Bazarny gave many interviews to local television channels, highlighting the interest paid to the topic of educating the young generation whilst taking into account all the requirements of healthy physiological development.
In view of the growing interest in both aspects of the event it has been decided to divide Education and Career into two separate projects: the Azerbaijan International Education Exhibition and the Azerbaijan International Career Exhibition. This was announced for the first time during the press conference on 3 October. Today, the new branding for the exhibitions has been revealed to visitors. The exhibition is organized by Iteca Caspian LLC and its partner, ITE Group plc.
